Demand an Independent NLRB Toolkit
The IBEW is calling on all members to mobilize now and demand an independent National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
The NLRB protects workers’ rights to organize, bargain collectively, and fight unfair labor practices. By law, its members can only be removed for cause, keeping the agency free from political interference.
On January 27, 2025, the Trump administration illegally fired board member Gwen Wilcox without cause, leaving only two of five members. Without the quorum required to issue rulings, the Board is paralyzed. The Supreme Court upheld her removal while appeals continue.
Without a quorum, the NLRB cannot:
- Issue rulings on union elections or certify results on appeal, letting employers fire union supporters and drag out appeals for months or years
- Decide unfair labor practice (ULP) cases, delaying justice for workers facing retaliation or union-busting
- Enforce employer accountability in contract disputes or organizing drives, allowing bosses to refuse to bargain in good faith without facing timely consequences
The result: Workers are left without a functioning enforcement system when their rights are violated.
This fight is bigger than one board member: it’s about stopping presidents from politicizing agencies meant to protect workers.
