The IBEW is calling on all Florida members to mobilize now to stop corrupt redistricting and reject gerrymandered maps. Demand fair maps that protect union voices and working families.  

Governor DeSantis already forced a map redraw in 2022 that gave Republicans four new seats. Now, DeSantis and his allies want to redraw maps again, this time mid-decade without new census data. Their redistricting targets Democratic strongholds in union-dense South Florida.   

House Speaker Perez has created a special redistricting committee that ignores Florida’s “Fair Districts” amendment that bans maps that favor one party. Their new redistricted maps could flip at least five Democratic-held districts in union-dense communities.  

This is not about fair representation. This is part of a national GOP strategy to flip enough U.S. House seats before the 2026 midterms to fast-track anti-worker, anti-union policies nationwide that they know are unpopular. That’s why they are trying to rig district maps.  

Mid-decade redistricting will:

• Erase workers’ voices in union-dense communities like Orlando, Tampa, and South Florida 
• Protect anti-union politicians who attack collective bargaining, PLAs, union dues deductions, and prevailing wage laws 
• Open the door for more anti-worker laws like the Big Ugly Bill  
• Threaten union rights and jobs in Florida and nationwide
