The IBEW Government Affairs Department is committed to advancing the IBEW’s mission and improving the lives of all members through supporting education, advocacy, mobilization, public policy, and legal and administrative action. The legislative and political education and activism of IBEW is organized and administered through the Government Affairs Department at the IBEW International Office.

This department oversees one of the country’s strongest political action programs for working people by:

  • The development and deployment of legislative and administrative strategy

  • Developing educational materials on current issues and candidates

  • Sharing timely resources online for registrars

  • Making political presentations at IBEW conferences and progress meetings throughout the country

The department also delivers training for local union leadership, registrars, and state and district coordinators to provide attendees with the tools and knowledge needed to develop or enhance their local union political program.

Write Your Members of Congress to Provide Railroad Workers with Access to Paid Sick Leave

IBEW members employed in the railroad sector, like those in all of the other unions negotiating with the freight railroad carriers, have been met with an abject refusal to bargain for sick time. The Senate passed H. J. RES. 100 on December 1, 2022, to adopt the negotiated tentative agreement on the unions that were unable to ratify. However, H. Con.
